Yaksajeon Hall Three-story Stone Pagoda of Gwallyongsa Temple, Changnyeong

This is a three-story stone pagoda standing in front of Yaksajeon Hall at Gwallyongsa Temple. Gwallyongsa, located halfway up Guryongsan Mountain, is well known for the many pieces of cultural heritage it preserves, though no record of the temple's history survives. The pagoda uses a natural rock as its base, above which a two-tier foundation (gidan) supports a three-story body (tapsin). On the lower tier of the foundation, pillar shapes are carved at each of the four corners and at the centre of each side, with thin, broad ansang (arch-shaped decorative niches) carved on either side of the central pillar; the upper tier likewise has pillar shapes carved at the corners and centre of each side. The roof stone of the first storey is badly damaged, and the body stones and roof stones are each formed from a single block. The underside of the roof stones has eaves-supports simplified to three tiers. Given its reduced scale and the simplified style of each part, the pagoda is thought to have been made in the early Goryeo period.
