This stone image stands beside the seven-storey stone pagoda inscribed with Sanskrit letters at Jeungsimsa Temple, which was founded in the mid-ninth century by the Seon master Cheolgam. It is recorded as having originally stood at the site of Seobongsa Temple in Jeonggok-ri, Namyeon, Damyang County, from where it was moved to its present location at the private expense of the late Hyeon Jun-ho. Standing 2.05 m tall overall, this stone bodhisattva wears a tall cylindrical crown on its head, and its slender, oval face conveys an air of elegant dignity. A necklace is carved around the neck as decoration, and the robe drapes naturally down over the left shoulder. The left hand is bent and raised to the left chest, while the right hand hangs straight down, resting against the outside of the right thigh. The round pedestal is complete with upper, middle and lower stones and a base stone, all carved with lotus patterns. Sharing with the seated stone bodhisattva at Woljeongsa Temple on Odaesan Mountain (Treasure No. 139) the distinctive feature of a tall cylindrical crown, this standing stone bodhisattva, with its simplified detail, is presumed to be a work of the Goryeo period.
