Bubugilgi is a diary left by Bak Gye-suk (1569–1646) and his son Bak Chwi-mun (1617–1690), of the Ulsan Bak clan, who lived in Ulsan during the Joseon period. Bak Gye-suk was dispatched to Hamgyeong-do in 1605 and Bak Chwi-mun in 1644; each served there as a military officer for about a year, recording their daily lives during that time in detail. The work forms a single volume of 79 leaves in all, 24 for Bak Gye-suk's diary and 55 for Bak Chwi-mun's, measuring 19 cm wide by 27 cm long. This diary is of great rarity value as a record left by a Joseon military official, and it draws particular attention for combining the diaries of a father and son across two generations. Above all, it is striking for setting down even the smallest everyday matters without concealment. It is also useful for examining the actual conditions of military affairs and the life of military officers in the border regions during the seventeenth century. The route from Ulsan in Gyeongsang-do to Hoeryeong in Hamgyeong-do is recorded without a single day missing, making it possible to reconstruct the state of road travel at the time. It is currently held at the Ulsan Museum.
