Stone Lantern of Pyochungsa Temple, Miryang
밀양 표충사 석등 · 密陽 表忠寺 石燈

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stone lantern stands within the grounds of Pyochungsa Temple alongside a three-storey stone pagoda (Treasure No. 467), though it does not appear to have originally stood at this location. It follows the typical form of a stone lantern, with a pedestal stone, a light chamber in which the flame is lit, and a roof stone placed in turn atop a long, slender shaft, each part forming an octagon. The upper pedestal stone is decorated with carved lotus flowers, and the light chamber has windows on four sides. The roof stone is badly damaged at the corners, and a simply structured finial sits at the top. Overall it displays the style of Unified Silla stone lanterns, but judging from the carving technique and scale, it is presumed to date from somewhat later, the late Unified Silla period.
