Kim Sang-heon (金尙憲, 1570–1652) was appointed Seongjeol-gyeom-saeun-jinjusa, an envoy combining the missions of celebrating the Ming emperor's birthday, offering thanks, and reporting to the court, in the fifth month of 1626, the fourth year of King Injo, and travelled to Beijing, returning in the fifth month of 1627, the fifth year of King Injo. On this mission Kim Sang-heon composed poems for Kim Ji-su, who accompanied him as seojanggwan, a recording officer; these, gathered and mounted together, form the Jocheonsinjang, farewell writings for an envoy to the emperor's court. This work was later included, under the title Jocheonnok, Record of a Journey to Pay Court to the Emperor, when Cheongeumjip, Kim Sang-heon's collected writings, was published. The Jocheonnok section of Cheongeumjip contains 136 poems and 14 prose pieces, but the Jocheonsinjang itself preserves only about 30 of Kim Sang-heon's poems. This is presumably because Cheongeumjip incorporated not only the poems mounted by Kim Ji-su as the Jocheonsinjang but also every poem Kim Sang-heon composed during the mission. Since most of its contents already appear in the Jocheonnok section of Cheongeumjip, this work cannot be said to hold great value as a new source, but because it is written in Kim Sang-heon's own hand, it is highly valuable as a document in the history of calligraphy.
