인천창영초등학교 구 교사 · 仁川昌榮國校 舊 校舍

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krChangyeongchodeung School was Incheon's first public school, established in 1907 under the name Incheon Public Common School. It was renamed Incheonjeil Public Common School in 1933, Incheon Changyeong Public Ordinary Elementary School in 1938, Changyeong Public People's School in 1941, and, after liberation, Changyeong People's School, the name it has kept in its present form to this day. The school also has a long tradition as the starting point of the Manse independence demonstrations in the Incheon region during the March First Movement of 1919. The former school building was built in 1924 and has a single linear wing. The upper part of the wall is finished in granite in an arch form, and the entrance is decorated with a rainbow-shaped arch in an early modern style. Large windows are arranged regularly across the symmetrical left and right facades to emphasise straight lines, and dormer windows are set into the roof to let light into the rooms beneath. With its entrance, corridor, railings and pillars relatively well preserved, it is a building from the early part of the Japanese colonial period.
