This is the government office complex of Onyang-gun in the Joseon period, comprising Onjuamun Gate and a dongheon (government hall). Onjuamun Gate was rebuilt in 1871, the eighth year of Emperor Gojong. The plaque reading 'Onjuamun' (溫州衙門) appears to have been named after Onju, the name of Onyang-gun in the third year of King Munmu of Silla (663). It measures three bays across the front and two bays on the side, and is the two-storey gate-tower building commonly seen in local government gate architecture: the lower storey was used as a passageway, and the upper storey as a nu-maru, an open wooden floor. Corner-pyramid-shaped stone plinths 1.5 m high were set up, with round columns placed on top to support the nu-maru, and a railing runs around all four sides. The roof is a hip-and-gable roof shaped, in side view, like the character for 'eight' (八). The dongheon stands 50 m north of the gate. It was built around the same time as the gate and served as the dongheon of Onyang-gun through the Joseon period, then from 1928 as a police substation. After Liberation it served as a police box, and following the town's elevation to city status in 1986 it was used for two years, until 1988, as a neighbourhood (dong) office. It was then repaired and restored in 1993. It measures six bays across the front and two bays on the side, with the same hip-and-gable roof as the gate. The section on Onyang-gun's public buildings in the Yeojidoseo, a mid-eighteenth-century compiled gazetteer, records the names and bay-counts of buildings including a ten-bay dongheon, a 23-bay asa (clerks' office), a 37-bay guest house, a three-bay Muhakdang, and a 12-bay Hyangcheong, but after repeated alterations only two buildings now remain.
