Jo Gyeong Tomb
조경묘 · 肇慶廟

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis shrine enshrines the spirit tablets of Yi Han, the founding ancestor of the Jeonju Yi clan, and his wife. Yi Han held the high office of sagong during the Silla period, and his wife was of the Gyeongju Kim clan. King Taejo, Yi Seong-gye, who founded Joseon, was Yi Han's twenty-first-generation descendant. Jo Gyeong Tomb was built in 1771, the forty-seventh year of King Yeongjo, and enshrines the spirit tablets of the founding ancestor and his wife, written at King Yeongjo's order by the crown grandson, later King Jeongjo. It was repaired together with Gyeonggijeon Shrine in 1854, the fifth year of King Cheoljong, giving it its present appearance. Together with Gyeonggijeon Shrine, Jo Gyeong Tomb symbolises Jeonju as the birthplace of the Joseon Dynasty.
