Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a three-storey stone pagoda standing at Buinsa Temple. Buinsa Temple is presumed to have been founded during the reign of Queen Seondeok of Silla, and an interesting story survives that, at the height of the temple's prosperity, it hosted the only monks' market (seungsijang) in the country, a market run exclusively by monks. This pagoda is the western one of a pair of stone pagodas built around the site of the main hall (geumdang), and it was restored in 1966. A three-storey body (tapsin) is raised on a two-tier base (gidan); the finial at the top is lost, but its supporting stone remains. Each side of the base is carved with pillar-shaped decoration, and its upper surface is carved with a two-tier moulding to support the stone above. Each body stone of the pagoda has pillar shapes carved at its corners, and the roof stones have a relatively gentle slope, with five-tier supports on their undersides and eaves that curve up gently at the four corners. The pagoda is presumed to have been built around the late Unified Silla period.
