Former Yeoseongyosa Lidded Box Sukso, Incheon
인천 구 여선교사 합숙소 · 仁川 舊 女宣敎師 合宿所

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building was used as a dormitory for the female missionaries sent out by the American Methodist Church in the late nineteenth century. Its structure is distinctive for its galvanised (tin-plate) roof, and its walls are built of red brick. The window and door lattices borrow a method used in Joseon-period seowon (Confucian academies) and in monks' quarters at temples, being fashioned in the shape of the character yong (用, "use"), with the edges filled in with a comb-tooth pattern. The interior is built of timber, and along the horizontal axis of the second floor a passage was fitted to allow access down to the basement. It is a modern building in the Renaissance style that has preserved its original form comparatively well.
