Standing Stone Buddha in Wonpyeong-ri, Chungju
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This is a massive stone Buddha standing on a lotus-carved pedestal and wearing a broad octagonal hat. On its head is a large topknot-shaped hair bun, and its full, broad face has clearly defined features. The voluminous shoulders, the imposing lower body, and the heavy robe draping over both shoulders lend the statue a dignified air. Faithfully following the style of standing stone Buddha statues that was popular across the Gyeonggi and Chungcheong region during the Goryeo period, this statue is presumed, on account of its excellent carving technique, to have been a representative work of its time.
