Standing at the summit of Jungangbong on Palgongsan Mountain in Daegu, this is a massive stone standing Buddha statue reaching a total height of 6 metres. The face has full cheeks and a faint smile at the corners of the mouth, giving an impression of compassion. The right arm, large in proportion to the body, hangs down close to the torso, and the five fingers are of uneven length, giving it a somewhat unnatural appearance; the left arm is raised in front of the chest as if holding something, though this is not certain. The toes exposed beneath the hem of the robe are carved with clear detail, lending a sense of stability despite the statue's huge scale. Judging from the carving technique — the drapery folds and facial expression well matched to the massive scale of the statue — it is presumed to have been made in the same period as the seated stone Buddha at Gwanbong.
