Cheongpung Geumnamnu Pavilion, Jecheon
제천 청풍 금남루 · 堤川 淸風 錦南樓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the main gate of a government office, built in 1825, the twenty-fifth year of King Sunjo of Joseon, by magistrate Jo Gil-won. It was rebuilt in 1870, the seventh year of Emperor Gojong, and relocated in 1985 to the Cheongpung Cultural Heritage Complex. It is a two-storey building, three bays wide and two bays deep, with a hipped-and-gabled roof whose side profile forms the shape of the character 八 (eight). The ground floor has three doors: the central door was reportedly used by the magistrate, while the two side doors were used by commoners. The upper floor is enclosed by a railing and open on all sides, allowing distant enemy movements to be observed. The signboard reading "Dohobu Jeolje Amun" (都護府節制衙門) is said to have been written by magistrate Jo Gil-won when the building was erected.
