Buyeo Setap-ri Five-story Stone Pagoda
부여세탑리오층석탑 · 扶餘細塔里五層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krAround the site where the pagoda stands there is said to have been a temple called Cheongnyangsa Temple, and stones and roof-tile fragments once used in its buildings are scattered here and there. A stone embankment about 1 m high has been built around the pagoda, so that its base is almost entirely hidden, with only the topmost stone exposed; the five-story body of the pagoda rests on top of this. On each storey of the pagoda body, pillar shapes are carved at the corners of the stone, and from the second storey upward the height decreases sharply compared with the first storey. The roof stones each have three-tiered supports on their underside, and the four corners curve up slightly. At the top, only the noban, a flat base for the finial, and the bokbal, an inverted-bowl-shaped ornament, remain as the finial; these were made and added at a later date. The higher the storey, the lower the body stone and the narrower the roof stone become, giving the pagoda a stable, well-balanced appearance. It is presumed to have been built during the Goryeo period.
