Jangsu Yangaktap
장수양악탑 · 長水陽岳塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis small pagoda stands amid a field on the hillside of Yangak-ri, at a site said to have been Subangsa Temple. Having been dismantled and re-erected several times, it has lost some of its parts and is now badly damaged. The pagoda's body was built on a square base stone. The first-storey body stone forms a longer rectangle than those of the storeys above, and only the second-storey body stone bears carved pillar-shaped decoration. From the second storey up, each roof stone is carved from the same block as the body stone of the storey above it. Except for the first storey, each roof stone has three tiers of supports on its underside. At the top, the fifth-storey roof stone is missing, and only a bokbal (an inverted-bowl-shaped ornament) remains as the finial. Carving the roof stone and the body stone above it from a single block is a rare feature, and the narrowing of the upper part of the body stones is also noteworthy. Departing considerably from the usual style of stone pagodas, it is presumed to have been built in the late Goryeo period.
