Mugyejeongsaji is the site of Mugyejeongsa, a pavilion used by Grand Prince Anpyeong (Yi Yong), the third son of King Sejong of Joseon (r. 1418–1450). Prince Anpyeong is said to have kept ten thousand volumes of books at Mugyejeongsa, and to have also built Damdamjeong Pavilion by the riverside in Yongsan, where he enjoyed composing poetry together with scholars. However, after the prince was accused of treason and forced to take poison and die in the first year of King Danjong (1453), the site fell into ruin, and today only its foundation remains. On a large rock face at the site, the characters 'Mugye-dong' (武溪洞), said to have been written by Prince Anpyeong, are carved in the shape of a large signboard, confirming that this was indeed the site of Mugyejeongsa. Note: on 5 December 2003, this Seoul Metropolitan Tangible Cultural Heritage was renamed from Mugyejeongsa to Mugyejeongsaji.
