This is a place where the spirit tablet of Guan Yu (Guan Yunchang), a famous general of China's Three Kingdoms period, was enshrined and rites were performed. It was built in 1598, the 31st year of King Seonjo, outside the east gate of Namwon-bu by a general of China's Ming dynasty who had come on a military expedition during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592), in order to honour Guan Yu as their guardian deity. The shrine was moved to its present site in 1741, the 17th year of King Yeongjo, and rites were held here every spring and autumn. It measures three kan across the front and two kan on the side, with a hip-and-gable roof.
