Seokpajeong Villa Byeoldang Hall
석파정 별당 · 石坡亭 別堂
Provincial Tangible Heritage

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the sarangchae, or men's reception quarters, attached to Seokpajeong Villa, the villa of Heungseon Daewongun Yi Ha-eung; it was moved to its present site in 1958. The building is L-shaped, with a gabled roof whose sides take the form of the character 人 (person). The gable-end walls are built of red brick, with a round window set in the centre. Although small in scale, the Daewongun's villa is finely built, and as a representative example of a sarangchae from the upper class of late Joseon it also provides valuable material for the study of byeoldang, or detached hall, architecture.
