The Goheung Ryu Memorial Gate Pavilion houses the wooden plaque bestowed in honour of Lady Ryu of Goheung (1371–1452), mother of the early Joseon official Song Yu (宋愉, 1389–1446); the stele beside it was erected to commemorate her conduct. Lady Ryu was the daughter of Ryu Jun (柳濬); she married Song Geuk-gi (宋克己) but was widowed at the young age of twenty-two. Although her own parents wished to have her remarry, she would not change her resolve, and taking her young son she walked several hundred li from Gaegyeong down to her parents-in-law's home in Hoedeok. She served her parents-in-law devotedly and raised her son so well that in 1653 (the fourth year of King Hyojong) she was honoured as a virtuous woman (yeollyeo) and granted a royal commendation. The commendation record bears the inscription "癸巳五月日" ("the fifth month of a gyesa year"), and the stele bears the inscription "崇禎癸巳五月日銘旌乙巳四月日立石" ("the commendation dated to the fifth month of a gyesa year in the Chongzhen era; the stone erected in the fourth month of an eulsa year"), showing that the commendation was granted in 1653 (the fourth year of King Hyojong) and the stele erected in 1665 (the sixth year of King Hyeonjong). The memorial pavilion measures one bay across the front and one bay along the side, with a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof. Inside, enclosed on four sides by red-painted lattice, hangs the commendation plaque. Structurally, long, octagonal-shaped foundation stones are set on a platform of rectangular dressed stone, on which short, round columns stand. The bracket work is of the ikgong type without projecting arms (mu-chulmok ikgong), and above the changbang (architrave) a single janghwaban (decorative bracket block) is placed at each bay, unusually built with one projecting tier outside and two inside. The pavilion is enclosed by a wall built of roughly dressed square stones (sagoeseok).
