Ganghwa Yusubu Ia
강화유수부 이아 · 江華留守府 貳衙

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the Ibangcheong, the office of Personnel affairs, one of six administrative offices — Ibang (Personnel), Hobang (Taxation), Yebang (Rites), Byeongbang (Military Affairs), Hyeongbang (Justice) and Gongbang (Public Works) — housed within the Ganghwa Yusubu, the seat of the Yusu, or governor, of Ganghwa, and it is a government office building dating from the mid-Joseon period. It was built in 1654, the fifth year of King Hyojong, by the Yusu Jeong Se-gyu, and in 1783, the seventh year of King Jeongjo, the Yusu Kim No-jin had the interior renovated and gave it the name Gwaeholdang. It is a single-storey wooden tile-roofed building with a ㄷ-shaped (U-shaped) plan, and it has a hip-and-gable roof whose sloping sides form the shape of the character 八 (eight). Repeated repairs mean its original appearance as an old government office can no longer be clearly made out, but it remains valuable material for understanding the local Ibangcheong offices of the Joseon period.
