The Owenginyeomgak Pavilion was built to commemorate Owen, a missionary who worked in Gwangju and died there as a martyr, and his grandfather. It is a two-storey grey brick building, square in plan, but its layout is symmetrical about the pulpit set in one corner. A distinctive feature of the building is that the ground floor and the second-floor balcony both slope gently toward the corner pulpit, so that the congregation seated there could look down towards it.
