In 1506 (the twelfth year of King Yeonsangun of Joseon), members of the Hungu faction, Seong Hui-an and Bak Won-jong, joined forces with Im Sa-hong, Sin Su-geun and others; having grown weary of King Yeonsangun's tyrannical rule, they deposed him and enthroned Grand Prince Jinseong as king, in what became known as the Jungjong Restoration. After the success of the Jungjong Restoration, the meritorious subjects branded Lady Sin, King Jungjong's wife, as the daughter of a traitor and forced her from the position of queen, installing Queen Janggyeong, Lady Yun, in her place. When this news spread, the magistrate of the time, Kim Jeong, together with Bak Sang, magistrate of Damyang, and Yu Ok, magistrate of Munan, resolved to submit a memorial calling for the restoration of Lady Sin, the deposed Queen Danggyeong, to the position of queen. Prepared to be stripped of their offices and even to die for it, they hung their official seals, the stamps that marked their posts, on a pine branch. A memorial pavilion was later built on this spot and named Samindae.
