This book is a compilation of writings composed as guides for the study of Seon, or Buddhist meditation, by various Seon masters since Bodhidharma. The printing blocks for this book originally comprised two volumes in two fascicles, upper and lower, totalling 118 blocks, all of which have been fully and well preserved. The upper volume contains the writings of eminent Chinese monks, while the lower volume compiles the writings of eminent Korean monks. According to the publication records, the book was first printed in 1907 at Unmunsa Temple in Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, after which it was moved to Beomeosa Temple on Geumjeongsan Mountain in Gyeongsangnam-do, where the remainder was published in 1908.
