Seongmodang Hall
성모당 · 聖母堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSeongmodang Hall is a chapel built by Bishop An Se-hwa, the first bishop of the Daegu Catholic Diocese, modelled on the Grotto of Lourdes. In 1918 it was made to resemble the Lourdes grotto closely, matching even the size and detailed form of the rock. The rear of the right-hand side is set slightly inward, and the rectangular interior is finished to resemble a rock cave, with a statue of the Virgin Mary enshrined above it. The foundations were built of granite, the corner buttress walls of black brick, and the remaining walls of red brick. The proportions of each part are handsome and the brickwork finely composed, and the building still retains its appearance from that period to this day.
