Five-story Stone Pagoda at Bonghaksa Temple Site, Goesan
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This stone pagoda lacks a properly formed stylobate; instead, its five-storey body rises directly from a flat stone. The first-storey body stone is made of two separate stones, while the remaining body stones and roof stones are each carved from a single stone. The first-storey body stone is comparatively large, then shrinks sharply at the second storey, after which the stones remain similar in size up to the fifth storey. The roof stones of each storey are rather thick, with five tiers of supporting steps on their undersides. Overall the proportions are poor, and together with the thickness of the roof stones, this suggests that the pagoda is a work of the Goryeo period. It had fallen during the Japanese colonial period, and was re-erected by the villagers in 1967.
