Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a granite standing Maitreya Buddha 2.1m tall, currently on display at the Kansong Art Museum. The head bears a large topknot-shaped chignon, and the robe is carved with diagonal folds. The two hands are joined and raised to the chest, and the body takes the form of a long stone pillar with little curvature. The Buddha's inner nature is rendered without exaggeration, and the carving technique retains an archaic quality, giving the statue a rustic, folk-like character; on stylistic grounds it is presumed to be a work of the mid-Goryeo period or later.
