Seated Stone Buddha at Bonghaksa Temple Site, Goesan
괴산 봉학사지 석조여래좌상 · 槐山 鳳鶴寺址 石造如來坐像

Only the body of this Buddha statue survives, and apart from a repair to the left wrist, it is in good condition. The face, large in proportion to the body, is tilted forward, and the robe covers only the left shoulder. The right hand rests palm-down on the knee with the fingertips pointing downward, while the left hand, palm upward, rests before the navel. The seated posture, with the left foot placed on the right thigh, is a rare example. The flat, unmodulated, rectangular upper body, the three folds on the neck, and the blunt drapery lines all show a tendency toward stylisation, suggesting that this is a Buddha statue from the end of the Goryeo period.
