Yeokdong Remains Stele
역동유허비 · 易東遺墟碑

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA yuheobi (memorial stele) is erected to commemorate the traces of a notable figure; this stele commemorates the former house site of Woo Tak. Woo Tak was a great scholar of the late Goryeo period and a pioneer of Neo-Confucianism, said to have mastered the Book of Changes brought over from the East in just one month, for which he was also called "Master Yeokdong." His official career rose as far as the post of jwaju at the Seonggyungwan, and he was also deeply accomplished in literature; his Tannoga (Song of Lamenting Old Age), written in lament over growing old, is regarded as both the oldest surviving sijo and an outstanding literary work. The stele consists of a stele body set on a tortoise-shaped base, topped with a capstone. It stood in its original location for a long time, but faced submersion due to the construction of Andong Dam, and was moved to its present site in 1975.
