This is the site of Seonhuigung, a royal private shrine where the spirit tablet of Lady Yeongbin of the Yi clan — a royal concubine of King Yeongjo of Joseon (r. 1724–1776) and the mother of Crown Prince Sado — was enshrined and rites performed. A shrine housing the spirit tablet of the mother of a king born to a royal concubine is called a samyo (private royal shrine). It was originally called Uiyeolmyo, but after Lady Yeongbin's grandson, King Jeongjo, ascended the throne, he elevated its status and renamed it Seonhuigung. Lady Yeongbin's spirit tablet is now enshrined at Yuksanggung Shrine, having been moved there in 1908, the second year of the Yunghui era. The building is a single-storey structure of three kan (bays) across the front and two kan along the side, with a gable roof shaped like the character 人 (person) when viewed from the side, and walls built of brick. Though the space carries the solemn air of a place for ancestral rites, it is now considerably damaged.
