Cheongganjeong Pavilion
청간정 · 淸澗亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krLocated on a hill at the mouth of the Cheonggancheon Stream, this is a Joseon-period pavilion and one of the Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong. The date of its original construction is unknown, but records that the magistrate Choe Cheong rebuilt it in 1520, the fifteenth year of King Jungjong, suggest that it was built before that time. It burned down during the Gapsin Coup of 1884 (the twenty-first year of Emperor Gojong) and was rebuilt in 1928. It measures three kan (bays) across the front and two kan along the side, with a hip-and-gable roof shaped like the character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side — a pavilion in the tower style. The wooden plaque reading "Cheongganjeong," hung beneath the eaves, was written by President Rhee Syng-man in 1953.
