제천 청풍 금병헌 · 堤川 淸風 錦屛軒

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building, said to have been a dongheon, a local government office where meetings were held and official duties conducted, is also known as Myeongwoljeong. It was first built in 1681, the seventh year of King Sukjong of Joseon, and was relocated and rebuilt in 1726, the second year of King Yeongjo, when it was renamed Geumbyeongheon. It underwent a full repair in 1900, the fourth year of the Gwangmu era, and in 1983 it was moved and restored to its present site because of the construction of Chungju Dam. It measures six kan across the front and three kan in depth, with a hip-and-gable roof whose sides form the shape of the character 八 (eight). The right side of the building is a daecheong, an open wooden-floored hall, and the left side is an ondol, a heated room. There was once an annexe used to hold prisoners, but it disappeared in the late Joseon period.
