Ssanggyejeong (Naju Twin Gyejeong) is a pavilion said to have been built by Jeong Ga-sin, posthumously honoured as Lord Munjeong, during the reign of King Chungnyeol of Goryeo (r. 1274–1308). Its name comes from the two valleys that flow past either side of the pavilion. Lord Munjeong cultivated his scholarship and character here together with Kim Ju-jeong and Yun Bo, and for this reason it was also called Samhyeondang, the Hall of the Three Worthies. Later, during the reign of King Sejo of Joseon (r. 1455–1468), leading scholars of the day, including Jeong Seo and Sin Suk-ju, used it as a place of study. It measures three kan across the front and two kan in depth, with a gabled roof whose sides form the shape of the character 人 (person). Ssanggyejeong, together with the old trees around it, creates a picturesque scene, and it is counted among the foremost pavilions of the Joseon period.
