Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the detached hall of Yi Hyeon-bo (1467–1555), pen name Nongam, a civil official and scholar of the reign of King Jungjong of Joseon (r. 1506–1544). It is said that after Nongam built this house, he named it "Aeildang" ("Hall of Loving Each Day"), expressing his wish to cherish every remaining day as he watched his 94-year-old father grow old. Aeildang was first built in 1512, the seventh year of King Jungjong, and rebuilt in 1548, the third year of King Myeongjong. The present building was reconstructed again in the late Joseon period. It originally stood in Buncheon-dong, within the Nakdonggang River, but was relocated here in 1975 owing to the construction of the Andong Dam. It measures four bays across the front and two bays to the side, with a hip-and-gable roof whose sides form the shape of the character 八 (meaning "eight"); it is considered the most beautiful of the buildings associated with Nongam.
