This is the sarira stupa of State Preceptor Jajin, who greatly rebuilt Daewonsa Temple in 1260, the first year of King Wonjong of Goryeo, and once resided here. Master Jajin was born in 1215, the second year of King Gojong of Goryeo, and made his name at Songgwangsa Temple on Jogyesan Mountain until his death in 1286, the twelfth year of King Chungnyeol, at the age of seventy-two. His stupa stands to the right of Daewonsa Temple's Geungnakjeon Hall; the pedestal and body of the stupa are both octagonal in plan. On the pedestal, a lower stone carved with a lotus pattern is directly surmounted by an upper stone in the shape of a fully bloomed lotus; whether a middle stone was omitted or has simply been lost is not clearly known. The body stone is comparatively tall and slender, while the thick, narrow roof stone has a steep slope with only a slight upward curve at its eight corners. At the top sits a finial made up of a bokbal (a bowl-shaped ornament) and a boju (a bud-shaped ornament), which appears to have been remade at a later date. Although it shows no particularly delicate carving overall, it can be described as a simple yet refined sarira stupa of the Goryeo period.
