This is the central hall of Cheondogyo, used for religious rites and general events. Construction began in 1918 under the direction of Son Byeong-hui, the third leader of Cheondogyo, and was completed in 1921. Donations collected from believers covered the construction costs, and the money left over was used to fund the March First Independence Movement. The foundation was built of granite, and the walls were built of red brick. It has a gabled roof whose sides form the shape of the character 人 (person), with steel angle bars used so that there are no columns in the middle. In addition, the two-storey office at the front was built in a tower-like Baroque style, giving the building a distinctive appearance. At the time it was considered one of the three great buildings in Seoul, and although its structure resembles that of a church, it conveys an entirely different feeling.
