This stele honours the filial devotion of Kim Ja-su (1351-1413), a loyal official and filial son of the late Goryeo period. Kim Ja-su passed the civil service examination in 1374, the twenty-third year of King Gongmin, and rose through the office of Daesaseong (chancellor) of Seonggyungwan, the National Confucian Academy, to that of Jwasangsi. Less than a year after entering Seonggyungwan, his mother, Lady Son, passed away, and for three years he kept a vigil of utmost devotion beside her grave. People came to call the place where he kept this graveside mourning "Simyogol" (Vigil Hut Valley), in praise of his filial conduct. The stele housed in the stele pavilion was erected in the reign of King Gongyang (r. 1389-1392). The body of the stele reads "Hyoja Goryeo Dogwanchalsa Kim Ja-su ji ri" ("The home village of Kim Ja-su, filial son and Provincial Governor-General of Goryeo"), while the reverse records his life and the story of his filial devotion. It was moved to its present site in 1973 from Nosan-dong, Imha-myeon, Andong-gun, after that area was submerged by the construction of Andong Dam.
