This white porcelain ho is a round jar (wonho) of the late Joseon period, with an upright rim and foot above and below a body as round as a ball, popularly known as a 'moon jar' (dal hangari). Given how difficult the shaping process for a moon jar is, and how rare it is for one to keep a perfectly round body, this jar can be regarded as an excellent piece even though it shows a slight left-right imbalance. The jar is made of white clay and gives an overall ivory impression, but in places where fine iron particles are mixed in it takes on a pinkish tone. The transparent feldspathic glaze covering the surface is covered with fine crackles, and because a complete reducing atmosphere could not be maintained during firing, one side of the jar shows a yellowish cast. Because the temperature at the bottom of the kiln was lower during firing, the inside of the jar's foot also appears underfired. On the foot of this jar, traces remain of glaze having been wiped from the contact surface and of fine sand having been used to support it during firing. Like the ipho (a taller standing jar type), this round jar is judged to have been a vessel for special occasions rather than everyday household use. Judging from its form and workmanship, the jar is presumed to date to around the eighteenth century.
