내원정사 진언집 · 內院精舍 眞言集

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a jineonjip, a collection of Buddhist mantras (dharani), printed as a single woodblock-printed volume in 1658, the ninth year of King Hyojong, at Sinheungsa Temple on Seoraksan Mountain. It is a rare example of an early printing of this type of text. It is a recarving of the edition published in 1569, the second year of King Seonjo, at Ansimsa Temple on Mudeungsan Mountain, and is identical to the Ansimsa edition except that the colophon at the end of the volume has been changed to that of the monk Dowon of Naksansa Temple. This book is a useful reference for examining the influence of Esoteric Buddhism on Korean Buddhism, and its eonbon, which explains the usage of the Hangeul alphabet, and its Siddhamjang, which explains Sanskrit characters using Hangeul, are important materials for the study of the Korean language.
