This is a medium-sized white porcelain jar from the early Joseon period, with a total height, including the lid, of 25cm. The jar's maximum diameter falls at its centre, giving it a shape similar to the round jars (wonho) of the late Joseon period; however, compared with late Joseon jars, it is somewhat flatter and closer to an oval in relation to its height and width, and it differs in having a rounded, ring-shaped mouth rim. The clay body appears to have been made from extremely pure white clay containing no impurities at all, showing that this is porcelain of the highest quality. The glossy glaze shows no cracking, indicating that the piece was very well fired, and it is in fact extremely hard. After the whole piece was glazed, the inside of the lid was fired resting on claw-shaped kiln supports, leaving seven such marks, while the jar itself was fired with the glaze wiped from its base and set on sand. Among surviving Joseon-period jars with an everted rim and an oval-bodied form, most date from the early Joseon period, and this jar can be regarded as having been made between the late fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
