Namsan Mountain Chodeung School Lecture Hall
남산초등학교강당 · 南山初等學校講堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1936 during the Japanese colonial period as the lecture hall of Namsanjeong Public Common School in Daegu, the building has retained its original type and features well down to the present day. It is a single-storey red-brick building whose square-tile asbestos-slate roof is laid in a diamond pattern, and it is symmetrical left and right around the entrance porch at its south front. The plan is rectangular, with entrances on all four sides, and a stage (lecture platform) and preparation room stand opposite the west entrance. The walls were built of red brick on a continuous concrete foundation, with the brickwork set back by one course where windows are installed, dividing the wall surface; square rafter-shaped ornaments were attached along the top of the walls. The school's main building and middle building have since been demolished, leaving only the lecture hall standing, but this building remains a valuable historical record for examining architectural conditions under Japanese colonial rule.
