This painting originally comprised eight panels, but one had been lost. In 2003, therefore, a panel bearing Gwon Gam's (1760-1823) poem 'Jemusudongdo' was added to restore it to an eight-panel screen. According to the seven-character verse by Gwon Gam on the eighth panel, his great-great-grandfather Gwon I-jin (1668-1734), while serving as Minister of Taxation, regretted having long been unable to visit his hometown; in 1729 he therefore commissioned a court painter to depict his hometown of Musu-dong, where his family's head house and ancestral graves were located. Today, historic remains such as Yuhoedang still stand in Musu-dong, and since the terrain has barely changed, the scenery depicted in each panel can still be identified. Interestingly, in depicting the various sites of Musu-dong, the surrounding paddies and fields are also prominently rendered; this seems to reflect not so much the painter's own choice as the intention of Gwon I-jin, who commissioned the work, and the painting stands as a realistic example of the depiction of a Joseon-period yangban clan's ancestral home village.
