These relics relate to the Joseon-period scholar Chusa Kim Jeong-hui (1786-1856) and comprise three items: the Honseoji, the Saengwon Examination Paper, and the Nongsangjisil. Kim Jeong-hui was a disciple of Bak Je-ga, the foremost figure of the Bukhak (Northern Learning) school. Influenced by the evidential scholarship of Qing China, he studied epigraphy; as an outstanding artist he created the Chusa style of calligraphy and was also a master of literati painting. The Honseoji and the Saengwon Examination Paper have been handed down within the head family, while the Nongsangjisil, a piece of calligraphy that was pasted on a wall, is kept in the memorial hall at his old house. The Nongsangjisil is presumed to have been displayed around the time Kim passed the state civil examination at the age of twenty-eight; the Honseoji was written and sent when he was sixty-two and living in exile on Jeju Island; and the Saengwon Examination Paper is the answer sheet he submitted at the age of twenty-four for the Hallim Sosi examination.
