The Lotus Sutra, often known by its short title Beophwagyeong, is, together with the Avatamsaka (Flower Garland) Sutra, one of the fundamental scriptures of Korean Buddhism, and it is the Buddhist sutra most frequently printed and circulated in Korea. The Lotus Sutra held at Naewonjeongsa Temple is a woodblock-printed edition totalling 14 fascicles bound in six volumes: seven fascicles in three volumes printed at Yongboksa Temple in Sangnyeong in 1632, the tenth year of King Injo, and seven fascicles in three volumes printed at Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan in 1649, the twenty-seventh year of King Injo. Because its printing dates and places are clearly recorded, it serves as a benchmark for establishing the printing history of the many editions of the Lotus Sutra.
