This is a siru, a brass steamer used in the kitchen for steaming rice cakes, rice and similar foods. Made in 1664, the third year of King Hyeonjong, these steamers bear an inscription of 187 characters recording the process of their manufacture, including where and when they were made and who sponsored them. They also record the names of monks who served as abbot of Beomeosa Temple around the time the steamers were made, making them a valuable source for understanding the situation at the temple in that period.
