Seated Simgyeongam Hermitage Stone Buddha
심경암석불좌상 · 心鏡庵石佛坐像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stone Buddha is enshrined at Simgyeongam Hermitage, near Yongdamsa Temple in Namwon, Jeollabuk-do, seated on a pedestal carved with lotus petals. The face is badly damaged and difficult to make out, but three distinct folds are clearly carved on the neck. The robe, draped over the left shoulder only, curves across the abdomen and flows down to the knees. The right hand rests on the knee with the fingertips pointing towards the ground, while the left hand, held at the abdomen, has its fingertips pointing towards the sky. Within the boat-shaped halo, a thick raised line divides it into a head halo and a body halo, each carved with lotus petals. Flame patterns are carved along the edge of the halo, and small Buddha figures, each with its own body halo, are carved at the centre and on either side.
