Gudaegusangeop School Main Building
구대구상업학교본관 · 舊大邱商業學校本館

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building was constructed as the main building of the former Daegu Public Commercial School, a two-storey, 'I'-shaped structure built of red brick. It is symmetrical about a projecting porch at the centre of the front, and its plan follows a single-corridor school layout, with a central stair hall linked to the front porch and classrooms arranged on either side. A secondary entrance was set at the rear of the stair hall, allowing access from the back of the building as well. In recent years some of the interior partition walls, window and door fittings, and finishing materials have been altered, but the overall form and internal structure of the building still preserve their original appearance well. It carries historical significance as the cradle of commercial education in the Daegu region, and, in the composition of its exterior and the treatment of its formal elements, it offers valuable material for architectural history research, giving insight into the architectural conditions of the time and the process by which Western architecture was introduced.
