Munsangwan Hall is the guest house (gaeksa) of Munui-hyeon county in the Joseon period. A gaeksa was a government building that enshrined a jeonpae, a wooden tablet symbolising the king, before which officials performed bows facing the royal palace on the first and fifteenth day of each month, and which also served as lodging for envoys sent down from the central government. In structure, a three-bay main hall with a somewhat higher roof stands at the centre, flanked by a four-bay wing room to its left and a three-bay wing room to its right; an inner and outer gate were attached at the front and a row of side rooms at the sides. The main hall has a brick floor, while the wing rooms on either side have traditional Korean raised wooden-plank flooring. The exact date of the building's original construction is not known, but the Munui-eupji, the local gazetteer, records that the county magistrate Yi Myeong-ha relocated and rebuilt it in 1666, the seventh year of King Hyeonjong, and an inscription on a roof-end tile reading "the sixth year of Yongzheng, the fourth month of the mujin year" shows that it was rebuilt again in 1728, the fourth year of King Yeongjo. The present building was moved next to Munui Hyanggyo, the local Confucian school, in 1979 because of the construction of the Daecheong Dam, and in 1997 it was restored to its original form at its present location within the Munui Cultural Heritage Complex.
