This is where Park Ji-gyeom, a Confucian scholar of the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon (r. 1567-1608), lived apart from the world. It was built in 1614, the sixth year of King Gwanghaegun, and named Aehanjeong after his pen name. It was rebuilt in 1673, the fourteenth year of King Hyeonjong, repaired in 1712 (the thirty-eighth year of King Sukjong) and again in 1718 (the forty-fourth year of King Sukjong), and has been repaired several times since. When first built it appears to have been a small building, three bays wide and one and a half bays deep, but later repairs seem to have enlarged it to six bays wide and two and a half bays deep. It is a hip-and-gable (paljak) roofed building, its roof sides shaped like the character '八' (eight). A wooden plaque reading "Aehanjeong" hangs here, along with many records, including the "Aehanjeonggi" (Record of Aehanjeong) and the "Aehanjeong Palgyeongsi" (Eight Views of Aehanjeong in Verse), both written by Park Ji-gyeom in 1614, the sixth year of King Gwanghaegun.
