A yuheobi is a stele erected to commemorate the traces of a historical figure; the site where this stele stands is the place where Song Si-yeol (pen name Uam) drank the royal poison and ended his life. In the second month of 1689, the fifteenth year of King Sukjong of Joseon, Song Si-yeol was exiled to Jeju Island; while being brought back under guard to Seoul, he was made to drink the poison at Jeongeup and died at the age of 83. Afterwards, Goam Seowon was founded in 1695, the twenty-first year of King Sukjong, and this stele was erected in 1731, the seventh year of King Yeongjo. The present stele pavilion was refurbished in 1925 by County Magistrate Yi Dong-han, and in 1973 County Magistrate Kim Sam-ju demolished the earthen wall at the front and installed an iron fence in its place.
