Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stele records the founding and history of Gapsa Temple. It consists of a stele body set on a square pedestal stone resting on a boulder, capped with a roof stone. All four sides of the stele body bear an inscription, though some damaged sections are illegible. According to local residents, the damage occurred because someone tried to dig out gold said to be contained within the stone. The stele was erected in 1659, the first year of King Hyeonjong of Joseon; the inscription was composed by Yi Ji-cheon, magistrate of Yeoju, and the calligraphy written by Yi Gi-jing, magistrate of Gongju.
